Comptroller Report: NYPD Sees Decrease In Personal Injury Claims
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Personal injury claims against the NYPD have declined sharply in the last year, according to the city comptroller.
The report issued on Wednesday showed claims against police have dropped nearly 13 percent over the course of the last year.
Comptroller Scott Stringer praised the department for emphasizing a culture of restraint for its officers.
The number of claims also fell against the Department of Environmental Protection and the Parks Department, according to the ClaimStat report.
Meanwhile the city's hospital corporation and the Sanitation Department saw an increase in claims, the report said.
New York City's budget for fiscal year 2016 sets aside $710 million to pay settlements and judgments from lawsuits filed against the city.
