ASCPA Hopes 'Cat Friday' Event Will Find Forever Homes For Cats & Kittens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Retailers aren't the only ones getting in on the Black Friday excitement.

The ASPCA Adoption Center in Manhattan is waiving adoption fees on all cats and kittens in its "Cat Friday" adoption event.

"The ASPCA is hoping that folks will choose to adopt, and not shop today," said Mallory Kerley, with the ASPCA.

Kerley told WCBS 880 the adoption center has nearly 100 cats and kittens looking for loving homes this holiday season.

This is the ASPCA's fifth Cat Friday event, but Kerley said this is the first year that the organization is waiving all fees on kittens and cats.

"This year is really the best deal of all," she said.

But that's not all. The ASPCA is offering a whole bunch of incentives, hoping to lure in families who are ready to adopt.

"For all of our adopters that adopt a cat over the age of 1, we're also sending them home with a free hard carrier," Kerley said. "But all of our adopters will go home today with a free collar, ID, and all of our animals are spayed and neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations."

All adopters will also be automatically entered to win two prizes from Felines of New York: a private in-home photo shoot to be featured on Felines of New York and an autographed copy of the "Felines of New York" book.
