VIDEO: Ocean Gate Police Officer Helps Skunk In Need

OCEAN GATE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A police officer in a Jersey Shore town went above and beyond to help a furry member of his community.

Video posted to the Ocean Gate Police Department's Facebook page shows the officer helping a scared skunk who somehow got a juice box stuck on its head.

"Come here buddy, come here bud, come here. I'll get it. I'll take it, I'll take it. I'll get it off your head, man," the officer can be heard saying in the video.

The skunk ran off soon after the officer was able to get the container off its head. The officer then turned the camera around and gave a satisfied, job-well-done, smile.

But the police department also warned on its Facebook page that residents should never approach wild animals. Aside from the stink from a skunk's spray, they're also a primary source of rabies.
