NJ Man Indicted After Strangulation Deaths Of Cousin, Child

FREEHOLD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New Jersey man has been indicted on murder and other counts in the strangulation deaths of his cousin and her foster daughter last year.

According to prosecutors, Brian Farmer, 59, killed Joan Colbert and her 10-year-old foster daughter Veronica Roach after Colbert caught him taking pornographic photos of the child.

The two were found dead in their first floor apartment in Long Branch in August 2014.

Farmer faces two counts of murder and four counts of child endangerment in the indictment handed up Monday by a county grand jury.

In 1984, Farmer was sentenced to five years for sex assault. He reoffended in 1996 when he sexually assaulted a young teenage girl and held her and her mother captive for three days. When they escaped, he burned down their home.

Farmer was released in 2009 as a "tier 2" sex offender after serving 13 years.

Farmer now remains jailed on $2.5 million bail and faces a life sentence without possibility of parole if convicted.
