PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A man crossing the street in Suffolk County died after being hit by four different cars early Saturday morning and now police are trying to find two of the vehicles involved that fled the scene, authorities said.

Around 3 a.m., police said the man was crossing Route 112 in Patchogue when he was hit by a northbound Toyota 4Runner. The man was then hit by three other cars, police said.

The driver of the 4Runner and the driver of one of the other vehicles stayed on the scene, but police said the two other motorists sped off.

The pedestrian died at the scene. He has been tentatively identified as a 64-year-old Patchogue man. Police said the medical examiner will make a positive identification.

No other injuries were reported.
