Nursery School Kids Share Their Favorite Chanukah Traditions
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Nursery school students and their parents at the Beth El Synagogue Center in New Rochelle celebrated Chanukah with a big party Tuesday.
As CBS2's Alice Gainer found out, the kids know what the holiday is all about.
The festival of Chanukah is held to celebrate a great miracle.
"The oil lasted for eight days," said one boy, Jackson Strickler.
It's a celebration of light and love that is shared with family and friends.
"You go to someone's house ... and we light menorah," said one little girl named Melanie.
There are a lot of treats to be had on Chanukah.
"I like latkes," said Sophie Baker.
When you're done eating up your latkes, or potato pancakes, what else is on the menu?
"Doughnuts!" one boy said.
"I like to eat chocolate gelt," Jackson said.
After you've eaten all the delicious food, there are plenty of things you can do for fun.
"Running around," said Oliver Berman.
Or more traditional games.
"I spin the dreidel," a boy said.
And you can't forget the gifts.
"I like presents," said a little girl named Eden. "We like to open them."
These kids have definitely got this celebration down.
So all that's left to do is kick up your feet and have a very happy Chanukah.
