CLINTON, Conn. (CBSNewYork) — That’s one way to cook a turkey.
A Connecticut college student who made national headlines after posting a video of his gun drone to YouTube has posted a new video of a flame-throwing drone.
The video titled “Roasting the Holiday Turkey” was posted to Austin Haughwout’s YouTube channel earlier this week.
The four-minute clip shows a flame thrower cooking a turkey while attached to a flying drone somewhere in the woods. As of Thursday morning, it has been viewed over 119,000 times.
A video of an armed drone called “Flying Gun” that was posted earlier this year to the Central Connecticut State student’s YouTube channel went viral and spurred investigations by Clinton police and the FAA.
The 14-second clip shows a four-propeller drone with a semiautomatic handgun strapped on top hovering as it fires four shots in a wooded area.
Haughwout said it was part of his mechanical engineering studies, which the school denied. Although alarming, law enforcement later said there was nothing illegal about the armed drone.
The teen was charged however in an unrelated case in July with two counts of assault on a police officer. The alleged incident happened when he was summoned to a local police station for questioning after being stopped in a library parking lot in Clinton.
Haughwout said he was using the library’s free Wi-Fi for a homework assignment. He is still awaiting trial on those charges.
The teen also made news last year when police charged a woman with assault after she confronted him about flying a drone at a Hammonasset Beach.
Police haven’t filed charges related to the flame-throwing drone, but say they’re looking into the video.
