Bomb Threat Prompts Evacuation Of Freehold Township, N.J. Movie Multiplex
FREEHOLD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A movie multiplex in Freehold Township, New Jersey was evacuated for nearly two hours late Monday due to a bomb threat.
Just before 5 p.m., an employee at the AMC Theatres complex at the Freehold Raceway Mall found a note in the men's restroom, saying there were multiple bombs in multiple theaters that would detonate at a specific time, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's office.
Theater management immediately evacuated the building and called Freehold Township police. Multiple police and fire departments, K-9 units, and New Jersey Homeland Security responded.
During the evacuation, police told people to avoid the area.
Howell High School film teacher Scott Napolitano snapped photos at the scene. He told CBS2 he was at the theater to review "Brooklyn" when everyone was evacuated.
The theater had been cleared of any possible explosives by 6:51 p.m., prosecutors said.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's office and Freehold Township police continued to investigate late Monday.
