Neighbors Shocked After Bronx Man Charged With Murder In 2-Month-Old Son's Death

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The arrest of a Bronx man who is charged with murdering his infant child has left neighbors shocked.

Jose Feliciano, 51, is accused of smothering and choking his 2-month-old son, Mason Whyte, 11 days ago in the Bronx apartment he shares with the child's mother, Danielle Whyte, CBS2's Mark Morgan reported.

Whyte confessed that she and Feliciano drove to Brewster, N.Y and buried the child's body there, Morgan reported.

Police recovered the child's body on Saturday.

"It's a baby, I don't care what the baby does, how angry can you be to take a child's life away," said neighbor Kimberly Rodriguez, who often saw the couple together. "Just to think about what the baby probably went through and being left somewhere in the woods for dead. You don't even treat an animal that way. It's horrifying."

Feliciano was seen on surveillance video carrying a duffel bag. The child's body is believed to be in the bag, Morgan reported.

"How can you do to a baby? You know, something like that, it's shocking," neighbor Suela Ago said.

Feliciano worked at nearby Luciano's Pizza for several months. Employees there told Morgan they didn't really get to know Feliciano very well.

"I never knew him before, I never saw him before, until he came here," Anthony Porco, of Luciano's Pizza, said.

Feliciano is charged with murder, manslaughter and manslaughter of a person less than 11 years old. The child's mother has not been charged.

The investigation is ongoing.
