Mayor De Blasio, Ex-City Council Speaker Christine Quinn Team Up On Homelessness
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- He defeated her to become mayor of New York City, and now, Christine Quinn is helping Mayor Bill de Blasio tackle the tough issue of homelessness.
As WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported, unable to find common ground on the issue of homelessness with Gov. Andrew Cuomo, de Blasio found it with the former City Council speaker.
The pair recently appeared together at a shelter for homeless women and children.
"I think there is a lot of consensus here. I think this is one area that can and should unite," said de Blasio.
Quinn praised the mayor's efforts, including a 90-day review of homeless programs by Human Resources Administration Commissioner Steve Banks.
"I've already begun telling Steve exactly what I think he should be putting into that plan and you can rest assured he'll find me highly annoying over the next 90 days until it's done," said Quinn. "And you know, that's his cross to bear."
And Quinn made it clear she wasn't joking, Diamond reported.
De Blasio has come under fire for his handling of a growing street homeless problem in the city. Many critics have said the mayor waited too long to address the issue.
