Babysitter Accused Of Abusing 6-Month-Old In Downtown Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A babysitter stood charged Wednesday night after allegedly abusing a 6-month-old, and investigators said the whole thing was caught on nanny cam.

As CBS2's Valerie Castro reported, Elena Bass, 36, appeared in Brooklyn Supreme Court for an arraignment Wednesday to face the charges. She was arrested Wednesday morning on two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

According to court documents, the alleged abuse happened in an apartment building on Schermerhorn Street in downtown Brooklyn on Dec. 22 and Dec. 23.

Bass, who was the family's babysitter, was caring for a 6-month-old. Court documents said the child's parents recorded two incidents.

In the first, the video allegedly shows Bass "pick up (the child) off of the changing table, rapidly causing (the child's) head and body to jerk."

In another case, the video is said to show Bass "grab (the child) out of (the child's) crib and throw (the child) down."

Court documents said Bass admitted she is the one who appears in the video.

Bass was released on a recognizance bond after her court appearance Wednesday. Her attorney said she could not release a statement on his client's behalf.
