Police Rescue Man Who Threatens Suicide On Subway Tracks In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police early Saturday rescued a man who said he was going to lie down on the subway tracks near the Brooklyn Museum.

Officers were called at 12:24 a.m. Saturday after the man told a 911 operator that he was going to lie down on the tracks at the Eastern Parkway-Brooklyn Museum station in Prospect Heights, which serves the No. 2 and 3 trains.

The man's call to 911 disconnected shortly afterward, police said.

Police Sgt. Bronko and Officer McGowan of Transit District 32 responded to the scene and found the man standing on the tracks. He was walking between the northbound and southbound track beds and stepping over the electrified third rails, police said.

Bronko told a Metropolitan Transportation Authority worker to cut power to the tracks using an emergency box at the station, police said.

At that point, McGowan and 78th Precinct officers Pulzone and Hinson went onto the tracks and got the man back to the platform, police said.

Once he was back on the platform, the 25-year-old man began crying uncontrollably, police said.

He was taken to Kings County Hospital Center, where his condition was reported as stable, police said.
