N.J. State Troopers Help Woman Give Birth In Car On Garden State Parkway

HILLSIDE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- There was a very special delivery this week on the Garden State Parkway, as two New Jersey state troopers helped a woman give birth.

It was all caught on dashcam video.

The couple called 911 early Monday morning in Hillside Township, when they realized they would not make it to the hospital on time.

Minutes later, the troopers arrived to find the husband in the driver's seat, and the soon-to-be mother in the back seat of the car in labor.

"We gave her specific instructions to push and at that point we observed the baby's head, so I cleared the airway, I turned the baby's head to the side and she had to continue pushing -- so that's what we did," said New Jersey State Trooper Arnaldo Mateo. "We just gave her instructions, and the baby came out."

The troopers said they cut the umbilical cord before handing the baby girl to her mother. Both mother and child were doing well late Thursday.
