NYPD Officers Help Deliver Baby In Car On Long Island Expressway

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There was a special delivery on the Long Island Expressway as two NYPD officers help a mother give birth.

Police said they got a call about a woman in labor on the LIE in Queens Saturday afternoon. By the time Officer Anthony Barton got to the car, the baby's head was crowning.

He radioed Officer Michael Pyzikiewicz, a trained paramedic, who provided instructions.

Police said Barton then delivered the baby boy and wrapped him in a blanket. That's when Pyzikiewicz arrived and clamped the umbilical cord.

The new family was taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center. The baby boy, named Josiah, was 7 pounds, 5 ounces.

Police said both mom and the baby boy are doing well.
