Police: Woman Stabbed While Walking With Son In Stamford
STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Connecticut police are searching for a suspect who allegedly stabbed a 37-year-old woman while she was walking with her son in Stamford.
According to police, the 37-year-old woman and her son left La Marqueta grocery store on Myrtle Avenue at around 8:30 p.m., when she was approached by a man asking for money, CBS2's Hazel Sanchez reported.
"She very calmly says I don't have any money and continues to walk thinking nothing of it," Stamford Police Captain Rich Curkin said. "Shortly there after she feels a very sharp pain in the right side of her abdomen. And only then does she realize she's been stabbed."
The victim, suffering from a 4-inch stab wound was able to walk to her family's home and call for help.
According to police, the suspect is a familiar face in the neighborhood near the crime scene. According to residents, he's often seen panhandling on East Main Street.
"He's always riding his cart," Vita Smith, a resident, said. "He got like a cart full of stuff."
"Who wouldn't be worried about someone that's out there making harm for people," Sabrina Resto, of Stamford, said. "And you're one of the people that tends to walk often or take buses."
Police say they have identified the suspect and anticipate a quick arrest.
