Staten Island Residents Complain Of Poor Plowing During Blizzard, Ambulance Gets Stuck
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Some Staten Island residents complained Saturday night that the city failed to plow their neighborhood streets during a blizzard that approached record-setting snow totals.
As CBS2's Dave Carlin reported, residential streets were covered with piles of snow. Along Marx Street in Castleton Corners snow would have been piled up on the sides of the road, but instead, it was sitting in the middle of the street.
An ambulance also became stuck in the snow in the Etingville section of Staten Island. Ariana Induddi of Etingville reported that streets had not been plowed in the neighborhood since the afternoon, and neighbors had to help shovel the ambulance out to get to its destination.
Back in October, Mayor Bill de Blasio has already issued promises that Staten Island would no longer be the forgotten borough when it comes to plowing the streets.
The condition of the roads on Staten Island has long been a huge concern to residents and a major source of their unhappiness. And when the snows come, it has become the winter of their discontent for years.
On Saturday, Staten Island saw 27.1 inches of accumulation.
