New Jersey Man Finds Library Book That Is 72 Years Overdue

BOUND BROOK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A central New Jersey man said he must have lost track of the book about football that he checked out of his local library.

That was a little bit of a understatement, since Frank Ryan has had the book for 72 years.

The Bound Brook resident said he recently discovered the book, ``Football Through The Years,'' in his attic.

He had checked it out when he was 11 years old, in 1944.

Back then the library levied a two-cent-per-day fine for overdue books. That would amount to more than $500 now.

Ryan joked that he hopes he doesn't go to jail.

He added that he doubts there is anyone still alive at the library that would know about the book.
