FORT SALONGA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — A convicted sex offender was arrested after officers spotted him naked with a 14-year-old boy in a parked car on Long Island, police said.
Kieran Bunce, 48, of Melville, was arrested on charges of criminal sex act and endangering the welfare of a child.
Officer Dennis Lynch was on routine patrol when he found the Level 1 sex offender with the boy inside a car in a dark area of the Fort Salonga Shopping Center early Thursday morning, WCBS 880’s Mike Xirinachs reports.
“This is a disgusting, brutal act and I’m glad that Officer Lynch was there when he was there,” Police Commissioner Tim Sini said.
Bunce and the boy had arranged to meet via a cell phone app, Suffolk County police said.
“This is a new era,” Police Commissioner Tim Sini said. “There are all sorts of phone apps, Internet websites, social media, that can get children into situations that they should not be in.”
Bunce was convicted in 2004 of misdemeanor sexual misconduct with a 16-year-old boy and was sentenced to six years’ probation, Newsday reported.
Bunce is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.
He faces up to seven years if convicted.
