Updated Sunday, Jan. 31 9:07 a.m.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Giants defensive tackle Jay Bromley is reportedly being investigated in an attempted rape at a Midtown hotel.

The NYPD told 1010 WINS they are investigating claims of an incident at the Hyatt Herald Square Hotel on West 31st Street, but would not confirm that Bromley was a suspect.

Bromey has been released without arrest pending the investigation, WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reported.

Early Saturday morning, Bromley allegedly got violent and attacked the woman, whom he met online, after a consensual sex act was performed, the New York Post reported.

The woman also claims Bromley hit her with his vehicle as he left the hotel, according to the Post.

Though the NYPD would not confirm if Bromley was involved, the Giants released a statement regarding the incident, saying "We are aware of the situation and will continue to monitor it. We have notified the league office per the league's protocol. We will have no further comment as we understand this is an ongoing investigation."

Bromley, 23, is a native of Jamaica, Queens, and played collegiate ball at Syracuse. The 6-foot-3, 310 pounder was selected in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft and played in all 16 games with the Giants this past season.
