Man Found Shot To Death Inside Hoboken Apartment

HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An investigation is underway into a deadly shooting in Hoboken overnight.

A man was found shot to death inside a single-family home at 706 Grand Street, CBS2's Janelle Burrell reported. The 51-year-old man was shot once in the chest, WCBS 880's Kelly Waldron reported.

Neighbors said the home is occupied by a couple, Burrell reported. Neighbors said they saw the medical examiner removing the body from the home at around 4:30 a.m.

The victim's identity has not been released.

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office homicide unit has taken over the investigation, but is not ruling out that the wound was self-inflicted, Waldron reported

Neighbors expressed shock over the shooting death.

"I've never seen anything like this before, or heard of anything like this before," one man told Burrell.

"I mean, it's terrible. I was just, like, 'Oh man, I moved here because it's safer,'" a woman named Christina told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck. "I used to live way out in Queens. I have no idea what happened. It's really uncharacteristic for the city or the neighborhood."
