NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The first dinner date can be a stressful experience, especially planning where to go.
But a new survey of singles in America found that if you want to secure a second date, your first should be for sushi.
“Sushi gets you to the second date because it’s sharing,” biological anthropologist, Dr. Helen Fisher explained.
As CBS2’s Tracee Carrasco reported, Fisher conducted the survey of 5,500 single Americans between ages 18 and 70, of all backgrounds. She found that sushi increases your odds by 107 percent.
“It’s also expensive, which says something about you, and it’s also sophisticated,” she said.
There are biological reasons as well.
“Fatty tuna or salmon it’s got omega-3 in it and that can increase your circulation and your alertness,” she said.
Sushi wasn’t the only key to landing a second rendezvous.
“Do not talk about politics or religion, like I don’t even want to get awkward with you like that on the first date,” one city single said.
“Just try to laugh, have a good time, keep it light, and positive,” another added.
While daters said political talk is a no-no, the survey said that 91 percent of singles want to talk about politics on the first date.
“Twenty-five percent of singles would not go out on a date with somebody who was not registered to vote. Thirty-five percent would not go out with somebody who did not have any opinion,” Fisher explained.
No matter where you go or what you talk about, only 50 percent of singles believe that a good first date has to end with a kiss.
