Rashad Jennings On WFAN: McAdoo Hire Was Best For 'Close' Giants

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Giants made the right call by staying in house to find their new coach, running back Rashad Jennings says.

In an interview with WFAN's Mike Francesa on Tuesday, Jennings said he believes Big Blue is closer to being a playoff team than its 6-10 record this past season indicates and that promoting offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo to head coach will allow them to "build off the blocks that we have laid."

"He knows how to command a room, got a great leadership ability, and everybody has respect for him because he gives it," Jennings said. "So I'm excited to have somebody that's within the organization because this is a good team. It's not a team you want to just blow up and start all over. We're close. We lost a lot of games, close games. And we just need to keep building and eliminate the self-inflicted wounds, and we'll be where we want to be next year."

Jennings did say, however, he will miss coach Tom Coughlin, who resigned after the Giants missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.

"That's a historical coach that brought a lot to the game, and he's somebody who has a knack and who understands the recipe for success," Jennings said.

Jennings said he remembers Coughlin once telling him that "faces may change but expectations never do," a message that resonates more now that the Giants are moving on without their longtime coach.

"I think he leaves that way, with pride and integrity in how he goes about his business," Jennings said. "So I'm definitely going to miss having a Coach Coughlin around, just his mannerisms. He's a fun coach."
