EDITOR'S NOTE: Due to breaking news, this story will not be seen on CBS2's 11 p.m. news on Thursday, Feb. 4. It will air at a later date.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It was a story that gained international attention.

An NYPD officer accused of trying to kidnap, kill and cook women landed Gilberto Valle the title of "Cannibal Cop."

But this former man of the law says he's not who you think he is.

For the first time since his conviction was overturned, he sits down for an exclusive interview with CBS2's Alice Gainer.

Valle tells Gainer, "There are a lot of people out there who are aroused by a lot of weird things. No one would admit to it openly because it's embarrassing, but for me it's out there so I can't hide from it."

Valle said his secret cost him everything. He hasn't seen his baby daughter, who's now 4, since just before his arrest. His wife divorced him and the NYPD fired him.

"When the FBI came to arrest me, they had six guys with guns pointed at my chest," he said.

A jury convicted Valle of kidnapping conspiracy. The conviction was overturned, but the damage was done.

"I spent 21 months in prison for a crime I didn't commit," he said.

Gainer: So you're not a violent person?

Valle: I'm the least violent person you will ever meet.

Now, a lot of people want to know how did this all start? What exactly was he doing? Is he working now? And is he in therapy or dating?

From his fantasies to his regrets. Learn more about Valle and what he says started it all.
