Police: 25-Year-Old Hasidic Man Stabbed While Walking In Crown Heights

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- A 25-year-old Hasidic man was stabbed in the back just before noon Wednesday walking along Empire Boulevard in Crown Heights. When the victim turned around he saw a man running on the street away from him, according to police.

"He was dressed in Hasidic garb. Right now we're looking at it as a possible hate crime because he's dressed in that fashion," Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce told 1010 WINS' Samantha Liebman.

The attack, seemingly unprovoked according to police, has residents a little on edge.

"Does it worry me? Well, yeah… but thank God we have good police officers and people dealing with it," one resident, Sarah, said.

The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital with a collapsed lung.

The Anti-Defamation league said it's concerned since a similar incident happened in November. They are offering a $5,000 reward in this case.

The individual is described as a black man, 20-30 years old, 5'10", 180lbs and was last seen wearing a dark colored jacket, blue hooded sweater, dark colored pants and black boots.
