Report: Giants' Bromley Won't Face Attempted Rape Charges

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Giants defensive tackle Jay Bromley reportedly will not be charged after a woman accused him last month of attempted rape in a Midtown hotel room.

According to the Daily News, the NYPD's Special Victims Unit and Manhattan district attorney's office conferred before deciding not pursue the case.

"He's not going to be charged. There's no criminality," a high-ranking police official told the Daily News.

Bromley told cops he checked into the Hyatt Herald Square on Jan. 30, went to the bathroom and then emerged to find the 26-year-old woman, whom he met online, naked on a bed, according to the report. She performed a sex act on him and then abruptly stopped to ask for $2,000, which Bromley refused to pay, sources told the Post.

Surveillance video shows the woman badgering Bromley after he left the room, the sources said.

The accuser told police Bromley agreed to pay her for a sexual act but tried to do more to her than agreed upon, the Daily News reported. Sources told the newspaper cops had doubts about her story.

The woman also claimed Bromley hit her with his vehicle as he left the hotel. But video reportedly shows she jumped on the hood.

Bromley's lawyer, Alex Spiro, told the Daily News: "Today, Mr. Bromley has been officially cleared of all wrongdoing. We are thankful to law enforcement for their efforts."

Bromley, 23, is a native of Jamaica, Queens, and played collegiate ball at Syracuse. The 6-foot-3, 310 pounder was selected in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft and played in all 16 games with the Giants this past season.
