2/13 CBS2 Saturday Afternoon Weather Headlines

By Matt DeLucia
CBS2 Meteorologist/Weather Producer

Good afternoon folks, and a brutal cold one at that! We saw our high temp of 22 shortly after midnight in Central Park and temps have been falling through the day as an arctic front pushes through. Strong NW winds gusting to 40+ mph will make it feel more like -10 at times by early this evening. Some passing snow showers are certainly possible at any time, streaming on down from the Great Lakes.

Overnight will be the worse and wind chill warnings/advisories are posted for all. We'll bottom out near zero in the city, while most drop below zero for ACTUAL temps, likely breaking records. Wind chills will range from negative teens in the city to -30 and lower in the higher elevations of the NW suburbs.

For Valentine's Day, we're expecting plenty of sunshine... but don't be fooled! Highs will only reach the teens as the arctic air continues. Winds won't be as brutal, but still breezy with subzero wind chills. If you head out at any time this weekend, be sure to dress in layers and cover all exposed skin... this is dangerous cold!

Monday's Presidents' Day holiday is looking interesting as we're watching a low pressure system tracking up the coast AND rising temps. As of now, it looks like we'll start out with some light snow early Monday afternoon, transitioning to rain late Monday into Tuesday.

While Monday may be slick, Tuesday will be wet... but definitely NOT icy. In fact, temps will continue to rise overnight and we'll reach 50 degrees for a high! Steady rain is likely, especially during the morning. A big roller coaster over the next several days!

Bundle up, stay warm, and check back in soon!
