2 Injured When Glass Table Plunges About 20 Stories In Midtown

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Two people were injured when a glass table plunged 20 stories in Midtown Tuesday morning.

The table fell from the 22nd floor of a building at 39th Street and Seventh Avenue at around 10:45 a.m.

The table shattered, sending debris into the street.

"It was like a burst of hail hitting the window, it was a big loud noise," a witness, named Sharon, told WCBS 880's Alex Silverman. "People were brushing pieces of glass off the top of stroller carriages."

Authorities suspect a gust of wind may have lifted a patio table and sent it plunging over the side, CBS2's Hazel Sanchez reported.

Two women were injured. They were both rushed to Bellevue Hospital.

Shortly after the incident, the city sent out an alert about gusty winds and flying debris, Silverman reported.
