Police Investigating Possible Hazing Death Of Buffalo State Student

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- A college student from Brooklyn died suddenly at Buffalo State College, and police said his death might be hazing-related.

The president of Buffalo State College announced the suspension of Alpha Phi Alpha on Friday following the death Thursday night of 21-year-old student Bradley Doyley of Brooklyn.

Doyley was hospitalized last month for an unexplained illness. Police are looking into reports that Doyley may have been given something to drink that led to that fatal illness.

Marsha Green is devastated over the death of her good friend. The two grew up together on East 81st Street in Canarsie, Brooklyn. She just saw him last month during his winter break.

"He left here from my birthday and he told me he would see me when he came back in March," Green told CBS2's Ilana Gold.

On Thursday, the 21-year-old senior and business major lost his life. During his first two years at Buffalo State, he was also a member of the school's basketball team. His fans honored him at Friday's game, questioning how this could happen to a young man who seemed to be in perfect health.

Police are now looking into what led to his death.

"My grandson is up there. Sometime in January, my grandson called me and told me he was vomiting and losing weight," Vanetta Fairweather told CBS2.

Fairweather said Doyley had been in and out of the hospital for several weeks. She talked to his parents and says they told her he could have been given some sort of toxic drink.

"A healthy young man couldn't just have the flu and deteriorate like that," she said.

Family friends told CBS2 the student's parents are now in Buffalo while police investigate. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
