Harlem Delivery Man Attacked As Onlookers Cheer In Disturbing Video

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A disturbing attack on a man who was delivering food in Harlem, was caught on camera.

Police are looking for the suspect who attacked the worker, but the victim told CBS2's Magdalena Doris that this wasn't the first time.

The video has over 6,000 views. Men can be heard cheering while the delivery worker is assaulted.

"They were like encouraging him to attack me," he said.

He said the incident took place in early December. The video has gained traction and sparked an investigation. It was taken outside of the Wagner houses in Harlem. The delivery man was doing his job when he was attacked and provoked for no reason.

"I thought I need to fight back. That's what I'm doing, otherwise it would be worse," he said.

The victim said he knows his attacker, and that the same person attacked him before.

He said this type of abuse happens so often that he doesn't even bother reporting it. This incident went unreported.

"It's not scary, I get used to it," he said.

Community members said they're disgusted that a group of people could stand around and watch.

"What always gets to me is, while this is going on, who filmed it?" Janet Samon said.

The delivery worker said he didn't realized the incident was being filmed, but it could lead police to a suspect.

The housing police command is aware of the incident, but no complaint has been filed.
