Experts Offer Tips On What To Do In A Slashing Incident

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A recent rash of slashings and stabbings in the city seems to have many residents on edge.

According to the NYPD's latest statistics, there have been more than 600 stabbings or slashings in the five boroughs since the beginning of this year. That's a 21 percent jump from the same period last year.

Earlier Sunday morning, two men were slashed in Chelsea by two suspects who had just left a nearby night club. And on Friday, a 60-year-old man was slashed in the face while getting on the subway in Midtown after he accidentally bumped into the suspect.

Many of the violent acts of crime have taken place on the subways, to innocent people walking down the street, and even inside a restaurant.

So what should you do if you come face-to-face with a slasher?

Edwin Pantoja, a 28-year law enforcement veteran, and Cesar Olavarria, with Force Effects Training, stopped by the CBS2 studio on Sunday to offer useful tips that could save your life during a dangerous situation.
