Stamford Woman Found Unconcious, Brutally Injured At Bottom Of Stairwell

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork)-- A Stamford woman is critically injured and police are asking for the public's help.

Stamford police know the identity of the 30-year-old woman discovered unconscious and brutally injured at the bottom of an outdoor stairwell early Tuesday morning. However, they're skeptical that her serious wounds are simply the result of a fall down the stairs.

"We have cuts on the back of her head and also to the front, we also have cuts on her hands and also her knees so it could be consistent however we don't know if someone pushed her," Lieutenant Diedrich Hohn told WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau.

Hohn said another puzzle is why the woman, who lives on the other side of the city, was at that address on the east side.

Doctors had to remove a portion of the woman's skull to alleviate pressure of brain swelling. Police said it's a serious matter and they hope to be able to question the injured woman at some point.

Investigators are urging anyone who might have information regarding the incident to call 203-977-4417.
