Revered Pre-K3 Program Has Jersey City Parents Camping Out For Days

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Some New Jersey parents have been camping out for days just for a chance to get their children into a popular pre-school program.

There are only 82 spots for the free Pre-K3 Program at the Concordia Learning Center, CBS2's Magdalena Doris reported.

The program is revered by parents in the community because it is public and free. For many, it's an opportunity for their children to get a quality education that won't break the bank.

With registration operating at a first come, first serve basis starting Saturday morning, some Jersey City parents began lining up in front of the school as early as Thursday morning just to get a spot at the front of the registration line.

"I grew up in this area and I want to get my son into a good school so I just think it's great," Nigel Todd, of Jersey City, said.

Parents in the back of the line on Summit Avenue said they know their chances for enrollment today are slim, but they are willing to wait for a spot on the waiting list.

"My wife delivered a baby three days before,"Rajesh Gunasekran, of Jersey City, said. "I just came from the hospital on Thursday evening and that's why I was late actually."

The Concordia Learning Center is located on the St. Joseph's School for the Blind campus in the Heights section of Jersey City and opened its doors in 2009.
