Residents Frustrated After Another Water Main Break In Hoboken

HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Crews are working to repair a water main break in Hoboken, a week after a car was swallowed by a sinkhole after another main burst nearby.

The six-inch main broke around 4 a.m. Monday on Garden Street between 1st Street and 2nd Street. The city said the road is closed to traffic.

Representatives with SUEZ Water went door-to-door alerting residents that they would be without water while repairs were underway.

"It's frustrating," one woman told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck. "I have a dog so I want to make sure that she's fine and healthy and is the water safe to drink. So, it's become pretty much a daily frustration around here. I guess there's no showers today."

"We do have a certain amount of stress, so, how frequently do they expect this to happen?" another woman asked. "All the time?"

Last week, a 12-inch main broke just two blocks away on 1st Street between Clinton Street and Willow Avenue.

A spokesperson for SUEZ water said it is working with the city to fix the aging infrastructure, but until that happens, "we'll have to monitor the situation and fix as needed."
