A-Rod, Severino Lead Yankees Past Mets 6-3

TAMPA, Fla. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run single, Luis Severino took a shutout into the fifth inning and the New York Yankees beat the New York Mets 6-3 on Tuesday night in a spring training edition of the Subway Series.

Severino gave up five hits in 4 1-3 innings. He was charged with two runs after being replaced with two on by Aroldis Chapman, who gave up a run-scoring grounder to Neil Walker and Yoenis Cespedes' RBI double.

Severino had not allowed a run in 10 2-3 innings over his previous three appearances. The 22-year-old right-hander went 5-3 with a 2.89 ERA in 11 starts last year during his first major league season.

Rodriguez had a two-run single during a five-run second against Steven Matz, who yielded five runs and seven hits in four innings. Matz has given up 11 runs over 10 innings in his last three appearances.
