Yankees' Eovaldi On WFAN: 2015 Went 'Better Than I Ever Expected' Before Injury

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- After having his 2015 season cut short by an elbow injury, Yankees pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is raring to go.

In his first season with the Bronx Bombers, Eovaldi went 14-3 with a 4.20 ERA. He enjoyed one stretch in which he won nine straight decisions.

"Everything was better than I ever expected," Eovaldi told WFAN's Mike Francesa on Tuesday. "Being part of the Yankees, it's been wonderful. The fans are amazing. I love pitching at Yankee Stadium. I want to say part of the reason to my biggest success last year was my split. Being able to add that to my repertoire has really helped out."

Eovaldi, however, said he was disappointed when he was shut down for the remainder of the regular season with the injury. He added that he would have been available to pitch out of the bullpen in the playoffs if the Yankees had beaten the Astros in the American League wild-card game.

"You always want to finish the season with the team," he said. "Unfortunately, I got injured. But compared to my first half of the season to the second half, I was really pleased with the results."

Eovaldi, 26, said he's feeling no ill effects from the injury, adding he started throwing again in mid-December, following his usual offseason schedule.
