Grandparents Killed In Readington, N.J. Crash While Returning From Easter Egg Hunt

READINGTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A pair of grandparents was killed Friday as they traveled with extended family from an Easter egg hunt in Readington Township, New Jersey.

Around 2:45 p.m., a father, two children and the children's grandparents were in a vehicle that was struck head-on as it traveled along Route 523 just south of Woodchurch Road, according to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's office.

The grandparents were both killed, while the father suffered minor injuries, police said. One child was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with non-life-threatening injuries, and the other was in a booster seat and was not injured, police said.

The family was returning to from an Easter egg hunt at the time, police said.

Police said the names of the grandparents were being withheld pending family notification. They did not indicate whether the father of the children was their son or son-in-law.

"Our condolences and prayers are with this family this holiday weekend," Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns III said in a news release.

The investigation into the crash continued late Friday. Anyone with information was asked to call the Readington Township Police Department at (908) 534-4035 or the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office at (908) 788-1129.
