Cashman: Money Won't Play Factor If Sabathia Ends Up In Yankees Bullpen

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman won't be afraid to put CC Sabathia in the bullpen.

Speaking to Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts on Tuesday, Cashman said money won't be an issue if the former Cy Young winner can't secure a starting spot in the rotation.

"The money is not going to be an issue. I would have to be comfortable with it because there's no other place to put him," Cashman said, as Sabathia is set to make $25 million this season. "He does get lefties out. It's stuff that we'd have to deal with if that's the decision we go."

Sabathia is battling Ivan Nova for the last rotation spot. In Tuesday's split-squad game against the Pirates, Sabathia gave up two runs.

Cashman believes the Yankees rotation will be good as long as they stay healthy.

"If you're going on the eye test … [Luis] Severino looks really good, [Michael] Pineda looks really good, [Nathan] Eovaldi looks really good. [Masahiro] Tanaka hasn't looked all that good and CC has not looked all that good until his last start. [Ivan] Nova had looked really good, and then his last two starts not so good," Cashman said.

Cashman also spoke about trading for Aroldis Chapman and Starlin Castro and the parity within the American League East. Listen to the entire interview below.
