Suffolk County Launches New Hotline In Effort To Reduce Drug Activity

YAPHANK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A new hotline designed to save lives and stop illegal drug sales is now operating on Long Island.

Suffolk County's new dedicated 24-hour drug hotline allows residents to report suspected drug activity in their neighborhoods.

"A member of the public calls the number, he or she can remain anonymous if he or she chooses," Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini said Thursday.

Terry Crowl lost a child to an overdose. She believes this hotline will save lives, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.

"People still are wondering, 'What do I do about what's happening on my own street?' Simplify it, make this phone call and you know they're going to follow through," she said.

The new hotline number is 631-852-NARC (6272).
