YouTube Video Of High-Speed Chase Leads To Arrest In New Jersey

PEQUANNOCK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police have arrested a biker months after they say he videotaped leading them on a high-speed chase through the streets of New Jersey.

Authorities on Wednesday charged 20-year-old Anthony Darrigo of Wanaque with eluding police with risk of severe bodily injuring and resisting arrest.

A police officer tried to pull over Darrigo on Dec. 10, 2015 after observing him driving the motorcycle on its rear wheel on Route 23.

Darrigo refused to stop, and instead he sped up and took off, police said. A video from Darrigo's helmet camera showed him weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed on Route 23 and through a residential section before police broke off the pursuit.

The chase reached speeds exceeding 140 mph.

"Innocent motorists, pedestrians and police officers are put in grave danger by such actions," said Pequannock Township Police spokesman Capt. Christopher DePuyt.

The video was posted on YouTube and police traced it to Darrigo.

Police seized Darrigo's motorcycle, helmet, jacket, helmet-mounted video camera, laptop computer and cell phone.

Darrigo was released on his own recognizance.
