NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York authorities said they arrested a 13-year-old runaway carrying a loaded handgun as he got off a bus from Virginia.

The boy, who was not identified, was arrested at the New York Port Authority Bus Terminal on Friday afternoon.

Port Authority Police spokesman Joe Pentangelo says officers received information that the teen was traveling to New York from Max Meadows, Virginia.

The boy was arrested without incident on a weapons possession charge. Police say he was carrying a bag with a loaded Glock 40 caliber handgun along with 79 rounds of ammunition.

The teen was being held in a juvenile detention center in New York. The police spokesman said the boy's family has been notified.
