New Jersey Man Searching For Beloved Dog After He Says Pup Was Stolen From Truck

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- A heartbroken New Jersey truck driver is going to great lengths to find his stolen puppy.

Fito Irribarra is on a mission to find his missing best friend Angelo, CBS2's Brian Conybeare reported.

"The dog goes with me wherever I go," Irribarra said.

The truck driver from Hillsborough, New Jersey put up 300 flyers in the Bronx this weekend offering a $300 dollar reward for the 14-month-old purebred Maltese.

"I have been looking ever since Thursday," he said.

At around 1 p.m. Thursday, Irribarra said he was making a delivery to a Bronx business on Jerome Avenue when somebody went into the cab of his truck and stole his GPS and his beloved dog.

"By the time I was done with my delivery, I realized my puppy was gone," he said.

Irribara, who is diabetic, said Angelo can even sense when his blood sugar changes and starts licking his arm to warn him.

"I realize that every time my sugar was going up that's when he did it, so basically he trained himself. So to me that dog is a lifesaver," he said.

He fears professional dog thieves may be to blame and said he got one call from a mystery person who demanded $200, but the guy never called back.

Irribarra said he's reported the incident to police, but there is still no sign of Angelo.

"I can't get to sleep, I'm not going to work tomorrow. I'm going to keep looking for him because he's my buddy," he said.
