Research Shows Tree Pollen Is Starting Earlier, Lasting Longer

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)--People in the Tri-State area are enjoying a gorgeous stretch of beautiful weather as an incredible burst of spring takes over the region.

However, with rising barometric pressures, a pollen explosion will also hit the area, experts said.

Dr. Leonard Bielory with Rutgers University said there was a mild discharge of elm, cedar, and maple during a warm spell in late winter, WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported.

Longterm research shows that as the planet warms, tree pollen release is starting earlier and lasting longer, causing more people to suffer.

"Over the past 25 years it has doubled to a national survey that the CDC performed so that there's been a doubling of individuals who have become sensitized to pollen over that period of time," Bielory said.

He said get tested, find out what ails you and when it's released so you can target your treatment.

Meanwhile, several in the area hit the beach to bask in the glorious weather Monday.

"Oh from one to ten, it's a nine. It is absolutely gorgeous," one beach-goer told WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs.

"Makes you feel great. Better than sitting inside. That view is spectacular," another said.
