Joe Girardi On WFAN: Yankees Players Frustrated About Lack Of Offense

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Frustration has begun to settle in on the New York Yankees, manager Joe Girardi said Thursday.

The Bronx Bombers entered Thursday's game having dropped six of their last seven games. They've been held to one or two runs in each of those losses.

"We struggled for a week scoring runs, and that's a long time for this club, and I think they're frustrated," Girardi said during his weekly appearance on Mike Francesa's WFAN show.

Girardi said the team has to do a better job of manufacturing runs and not relying on home runs.

"We scored two runs last night, and both of them were solo shots," he said. "And sometimes when pitchers are on, it's not going to be so easy. So we have to be better at when you get a runner on second with nobody out, you've got to be able to get him over."

Among the players who have struggled at the plate is outfielder Aaron Hicks, who is batting .050. But Girardi said he's not overly concerned.

"I know when you look at his numbers he has been (awful)," the manager said. "But when you look at some of the balls that he's hit and how hard he's hit them and doesn't really have anything to show, it can become really frustrating for a player. And my concern for him is keep hitting the ball hard, and that's going to change. Don't get out of what you do. Don't start swinging at first pitches. Don't get overanxious. And as long as he doesn't do that, I think he'll be fine."
