NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Some people thought a cool, dreary April evening was the perfect time for a movie in the park.

Prince fans were in Fort Greene Park on Friday night, to watch Prince’s 1984 rock musical drama “Purple Rain,” share memories, and music, 1010 WINS’ Al Jones reported.

“He set the trend. He was like another Michael Jackson,” one fan said.

The pop superstar, widely acclaimed as one of the most inventive and influential musicians of his era with hits including “Little Red Corvette,” “Let’s Go Crazy” and “When Doves Cry,” was found dead at his home last Thursday in suburban Minneapolis.

Fans were decked head to toe in purple including Tanya Powers who said Prince appealed to everyone.

“His music appealed to everyone. His music wasn’t just for black, it was for all nationalities,” she said.

In case the music wasn’t enough, twin “little red Corvettes” flanked the park.
