Police: Thief Used Garage Door Remotes To Break Into Hauppauge Homes

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County police are investigating several burglaries where a suspect used stolen car garage remotes to break into homes.

In one incident in Hauppauge, the suspect first broke into an unlocked car in the driveway of a home on Dale Court. The suspect then used a garage door opener to get inside the home.

Resident Marie Digangi told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall she was sound asleep with her husband when the incident occurred.

"During the evening, I got up about...I don't know, 2:30, 3 o'clock in the morning," Digangi said. "Maybe that scared him off, that's what the police think."

Digangi said the suspect managed to get into her home and rifled through her belongings, but did not take anything.

Police say the suspect also broke into a home on Janet Court in Hauppauge, using the same tactics. In that incident, the suspect stole a number of items.
