Police Question Nephew In Disappearance Of Retired Nurse From The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police Thursday night were questioning the nephew of a missing 69-year-old Bronx woman, after police sources said he said something potentially incriminating to a family member.

As CBS2's Valerie Castro reported, the whereabouts of Patricia Myers, a retired nurse, were still unknown Thursday night. She was last seen on Wednesday of last week at the building at 1295 Grand Concourse, where neighbors said she had lived for decades.

On Wednesday, detectives from the NYPD Crime Scene Unit were seen walking in and out of Myers' apartment.

Police sources told CBS2 that investigators believe the Myers case is more than simply a missing persons case, after a cadaver dog alerted them to signs of possible foul play in her bedroom.

Family members told police they are suspicious of Myers' nephew, who recently moved in with her. The 42-year-old man is on parole for burglary and has 11 prior arrests.

Neighbors told CBS2's Ali Bauman on Wednesday that they had strange interactions with him around the time of her disappearance.

"He was supposed to come with his mother. He was knocking at the door for a half hour. She came to the door, said 'hold it," neighbor George Byers recalled, "She finally came to the door. She said, 'where's your mother?' He said, 'oh she didn't come, she told me to come."

Byers continued: "I saw him the next day, which is Wednesday. He said 'my aunt is in the hospital.' I saw her at the door the other day and I haven't seen him since," Byers said.

Police tracked down Myers' nephew on Thursday after a family member said he called to say he had done something wrong.

Late Thursday, the nephew was being questioned by police, but he had not been charged with a crime.
