Parents Claim 7-Year-Old Daughter Was Left Behind On School Trip

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Parents of a Brooklyn elementary school student are speaking out after they claim a school teacher left their 7-year-old daughter behind on a school field trip.

Parents of a second-grader from PS 213 in East New York say their child was left behind on a class trip to Manhattan Beach on Wednesday, 1010 WINS' Samantha Liebman reported.

The girl apparently asked her teacher if she could throw something away in a garbage can. When she returned, her teacher and the class were gone.

The child was brought back to the school after another teacher still on the premises realized she had been left by her class.

Ketesha Little-Cofield, the girl's mother, says she was never contacted by the school in relation to the incident.

"Her actual teacher never contacted my husband or myself, the authorities, the school," Little-Cofield said.

Department of Education spokesperson Toya Holness said the student was under supervision of the school staff during the field trip and returned to school on a bus with a different class.

"Nothing is more important than the safety and security of all students and staff. We are investigating the incident and have protocols in place to ensure it is addressed appropriately."

Little-Cofield said she does not want the teacher to be fired, but does want re-training so this type of incident doesn't happen again.
