Rangers' Oscar Lindberg Has Hip Surgery, Out 6 Months

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — New York Rangers forward Oscar Lindberg has had surgery to repair a hip labral injury.

General manager Jeff Gorton announced the surgery Friday, saying the 24-year-old, who just completed his rookie season, would be sidelined six months. That time frame includes the first month of next season.

Lindberg had 13 goals and 15 assists in 68 games. His plus-12 rating was second among NHL rookies.

Lindberg scored four goals in his first three games, but by season's end he was in coach Alain Vingeault's doghouse. Lindberg was scratched for 11 of the final 13 regular season games and for three of the five playoff games against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Daily News reported Friday that Lindberg's hip issues were not the reason he was benched.

The surgery was performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
