De Blasio Talks Low-Income Housing, Crime During Clermont Houses Town Hall
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- On Tuesday night, Mayor Bill de Blasio hosted a town hall with Bronx residents to discuss public safety.
As 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported, the mayor focused on low-income housing, services for the poor, and crime during an appearance at the Clermont Houses on 169th Street in the Bronx.
"Shootings down also in the Bronx, 17 percent. Homicides down 7 percent, but it's not enough. We have so much more to do," the mayor said.
Bernard Smith asked the mayor to crack down on gun ammunition, citing a murder that took place earlier in the day.
"You say crime is down, but just today a young man got killed," he said.
Maria Forbes said there was more housing, but it's not affordable.
"There's nobody here to afford those apartments," she said.
The mayor strongly disagreed.
"For people who make twenty-something thousand and below," he said.
Many of the mayor's department heads remained on the scene answering questions into the night.
