KIRYAS JOEL, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — FBI agents conducted raids Thursday in the ultra-Orthodox village of Kiryas Joel in Orange County.

As WCBS 880’s Peter Haskell reported, it was not clear exactly what investigators were looking for, and they were not saying.

There were a number of raids in the village of Kiryas Joel in the town of Monroe. Authorities targeted ultra-Orthodox schools and facilities, including a property run by United Talmudical Academy.

The raids come after two videos appeared on the Internet said the principal at Satmar Elementary School in close physical contact with young boys. School officials have said there was no abuse.

Two months ago, there were raids in Rockland County. They also involved Hasidic businesses and properties.

The earlier investigation is believed to involve the misuse of federal money.

The FBI acknowledged the investigation, but provided no details. The U.S. Attorney’s office declined to comment.
